Agave

Origin: Greek

Meaning: the Latinized form of Agaue, a Greek feminine name meaning "illustrious, noble".

In Greek mythology, Agave was one of the sisters of Semele, the mother of the god Dionysus, who spread a false rumor about the death of her sister. In revenge, Dionysus drives Agave and her sisters mad and cause them to tear apart her son, Pentheus, making them believe in their frenzy they were killing a lion.

Agave is also the name of the plant from which the syrup comes from, used as an alternative to sugar.

Pronounced a-gah-vee.
