Origin: Hebrew

Meaning: the Greek form of Hebrew feminine name Shoshannah from Hebrew shoshan meaning "lily", which ultimately derives from Egyptian sšn meaning "lotus".

In the Book of Daniel, Susanna is a woman falsely accused of adultery by two old men who secretly watch her as she is bathing in her garden. They accost her, threatening to tell people that she was meeting a young man unless she has sex with them, though she refuses. The prophet Daniel clears her name and innocence by tricking her accusers.
